OQENA First Boutique in Peñíscola: A Showcase of World Crafts

Espace cosy avec tapis en fibre naturelle, poufs tressés et coussins colorés dans la boutique OQENA

It is with great joy that we announce the opening of our first physical store, nestled in the heart of the beautiful city of Peñíscola, Spain. A project born from a love of craftsmanship, nature, and human encounters, finally coming to life in a warm, organic, and inspiring space. Welcome to our world.

🌿 The dream behind the shop

Until now, our OQENA adventure has been lived mainly online: raffia bags , table decorations , ethical creations from Madagascar. But over the course of our travels and meetings, particularly with talented artisans working with wood, ceramics or even natural cosmetics, the desire to go further became clear. We wanted a place to share these artisanal treasures in a different way: by telling their story, by touching them, by experiencing them.

🛖 A boutique designed like a living museum

The opening of this boutique also marks a symbolic milestone: Peñíscola is the city where Manuel and I met more than 10 years ago. This project is a return to our roots.

From the moment you step into the store, you enter a world made of natural materials, earth-toned colors, and filled with authentic stories. The atmosphere is soft, organic, almost meditative. A small, living museum of world craftsmanship, where each object has a soul.

To enhance our creations, we collaborated with David, a carpenter based in Villafamés . His handmade wooden furniture brings a unique warmth and reflects our desire for authenticity.

👜 What you will find at OQENA

Our iconic collection of raffia bags and hats is of course present, enriched with many new models. You'll also find:

  • Decorative items made from raffia (placemats, mirrors, lampshades, rugs, baskets, poufs, etc.).
  • Traditional Malagasy instruments such as the Kalimba or the Valiha.
  • 100% natural cosmetic products, made by an artisanal laboratory in Madagascar: soaps, solid shampoos, vegetable oils, face masks, etc.
  • And in collaboration with local designers: David 's wooden furniture, Felix 's decorative and utilitarian olive wood objects, Santiago 's ceramics, Eva 's clothes, Laura 's accessories...

🎁 Unique pieces & favorites

At OQENA, many of our creations are limited edition, and some are even unique pieces. Each object tells a story—that of a craftsman, a material, a culture.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 People at the heart of the project

Behind each raffia piece are artisan families located throughout Madagascar. They are the ones who perpetuate ancient skills with patience and passion.

The store is also a meeting place: with our customers, our partners, our friends. We love to share, tell the story behind the objects, and create a unique experience.

🌍 A committed & conscious store

The name OQENA sums up our commitments: Original, Quality, Exclusive, Natural, Authentic.
Each creation meets at least 4 of these pillars. If not, it doesn’t make it through our doors.

Our vision of "sustainable beauty"? Creating or offering objects that we keep for a long time. Objects that are meaningful, respectful of those who make them and the planet. Buying less, but better. With love.

🎉 A solar inauguration

We opened our doors on April 11th, just before the Semana Santa celebrations. The reception was incredible: visitors were touched by the natural and unique atmosphere of our store. Many told us that Peñíscola was missing a place like this. This deeply touched us.

This summer, OQENA will be buzzing with small events: our friend from Vermoodsessions will be mixing at warm and relaxed summer evenings. Stay tuned!
