Our story

OQENA, a story of travel and encounters
The idea for OQENA was born during a trip to the island of Nosy Be, Madagascar. Marina and Manu, a Franco-Spanish couple passionate about nature and world cultures, discovered raffia, a supple and durable fiber woven for generations by local artisans. Fascinated by the beauty of this craft and convinced that it deserves to be preserved, they envisioned a brand that would combine contemporary design with distant traditions.

Materials chosen with care
Each OQENA piece is crafted from a noble material, steeped in history. Plant fibers, including raffia and other local resources, are carefully selected, respecting the land and the communities that work it. Our approach is simple: create without depleting, transform without distorting.
The hands that bring creations to life
At the heart of OQENA are artisans whose mastery of crochet, weaving, and other ancestral skills is expressed through patient gestures, learned over decades and refined through experience. In our workshops, each stitch, each mesh is designed to combine aesthetics and strength, resulting in pieces that bear a unique imprint. This proximity to the artisans allows us to transmit a soul to each object, a bond between the one who creates it and the one who will wear it.
“We created OQENA to live up to our dreams and our values.”

When rarity becomes an art
Each limited-edition collection is designed to last and be passed down. Our pieces embody both the precision of inherited craftsmanship and the creativity that gives them character and soul. They reflect the history of a place, the beauty of a material, and the richness of expertise, to accompany those who seek meaning and beauty in what they wear.
